A quiet, free, honest page about staying safe online.
Zolsi.CC exists because most internet safety advice is written either for children in a voice they find patronising, or for adults in a voice they find impenetrable. This site tries to be readable by a twelve year old and useful to a seventy year old, using the same words for both.
The gap this is trying to fill
The organisations doing the real work in this field are excellent, and this site links to them rather than competing with them. But their material is often spread across long documents, aimed at professionals, or written for one country’s legal system. Someone frightened at eleven at night needs one page, in plain words, that tells them what is happening and what to do next.
The other reason is simpler. The advice that actually protects children is not technical. It is that a child has an adult they can tell without being punished, and that both of them recognise a pattern when it starts. Neither of those requires any expertise. They just require someone to have said it clearly once.
Principles this site holds to
-
Readable before clever
Short sentences and ordinary words. Every technical term is explained the first time it appears. The body text is set in Atkinson Hyperlegible, a typeface designed by the Braille Institute to be easier to read for people with low vision, and the text size control in the header changes the whole site, not just one page.
-
Calm before dramatic
Fear makes people freeze, and frightened parents make worse decisions than informed ones. Nothing here is written to alarm. The risks are described accurately, which usually turns out to be less frightening than the vague version people are carrying around already.
-
Checked, or not said
Every organisation, phone number and service on the get help page was verified against that organisation’s own website, and the date of the check is printed there. If something could not be confirmed, it is not on the page.
-
Nothing collected
No accounts, no analytics, no advertising, no tracking cookies, no third party scripts of any kind. The only thing stored is your chosen text size, kept in your own browser and never sent anywhere. This is a site people may read at the worst moment of their year, and it has no business knowing who they are.
-
Works everywhere
Plain HTML and CSS with a small amount of optional JavaScript. Every page is fully readable with JavaScript switched off, on an old phone, on a slow connection, and with a screen reader. Fonts are served from this site rather than from a third party.
Zolsi.CC cannot help you directly.
It is a guide, not a service. It cannot receive a report, contact a platform, remove an image, or reach anyone on your behalf. Nobody here reads a message you send into the internet hoping it arrives. Everything on the get help page is run by an organisation that can actually act, and every one of them is better placed than this site to help you.
It is also not legal or clinical advice. Laws about images, consent and reporting differ sharply between countries, and a situation that needs a lawyer, a doctor or a therapist needs one of those, not a web page.
If something here is wrong
Then it should be fixed, quickly. Out of date phone numbers and broken links are the most likely problems, and they are the ones that matter most, because someone will follow them at a bad moment.
The whole site is public and open source at github.com/no1qq/zolsi.cc, where anything can be reported or corrected. The site is independent and non-commercial: it sells nothing, carries no advertising, accepts no sponsorship, and is not affiliated with any of the organisations it links to.
